More troops Israel to border with Syria

The Israeli army is sending extra troops to the Golan Heights, because there is heavy fighting between the Syrian army and insurgents across the border in Syria.

Israel said that it is sticking to the policy not to interfere in the struggle between the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and insurgents. Israel warned that it will take action if Israeli sovereignty is violated or if Israeli citizens are at risk.

Parts of the Syrian city of Daraa, south-east of the Golan Heights, are among the last places in Syria where insurgents still stand against the Assad regime. In recent weeks, the government army in Daraa and the surrounding area has achieved substantial gains.

Tens of thousands of people have fled to the border with Jordan and the Golan Heights annexed by Israel.
