Manchester City Pursues Rayan Aït-Nouri for Summer Rebuild
Manchester City is reportedly targeting Wolves' Rayan Aït-Nouri to strengthen their left-back position in the upcoming season. Aït-Nouri, 23, is considered City's top choice for the position, with talks ongoing for a potential £50m deal.
Search for a Right-Back
City's pursuit for defensive reinforcements doesn't stop at Aït-Nouri, as they are also in the market for a new right-back. Club captain Kyle Walker is anticipated to make a permanent departure this summer, following a loan spell at AC Milan in the previous season.
Pep Guardiola previously utilized Josko Gvardiol and young talent Nico O'Reilly in the left-back role, lacking a specialized player in that position since Benjamin Mendy's last game for the club in 2021.
Valuation and Negotiations
Despite City's interest in Aït-Nouri, negotiations with Wolves regarding the player's valuation are ongoing. While the clubs differ in their assessment, there is a mutual intent to reach a compromise. The Algerian international has one year remaining on his current contract at Molineux, with a possible extension until 2026.
City aims to conclude the majority of their summer transfer dealings before the FIFA Club World Cup. The deadline for player registrations is June 10, just before the tournament commences in the U.S later this month.
Wolves have already faced a significant loss as Manchester United triggered Matheus Cunha's £62.5 million release clause. As they navigate Aït-Nouri's potential departure, the club values the player at approximately £50m.
