switzerland - Ten hotel workers in Switzerland have been stranded for a week due to rockslides, with the nearby village evacuated over landslide risks.

Hotel Staff Stranded by Swiss Avalanche

Ten employees of a hotel in Switzerland have been trapped for a week following rockslides in the area, cutting off access to lower ground.

Escalating Danger

The workers at Fafleralp hotel, located at 1789 meters altitude, were cut off when the Beichgletsjer glacier started shifting, blocking the routes downhill.

The rocks are increasingly moving towards Lötschental and Blatten. Initially, the speed was half a meter per day, but it has now accelerated to four meters. There is a high risk of a massive collapse of 5 million cubic meters of rock onto the deserted village.

Despite the challenges, the hotel staff, including manager Barbara Achrainer, remain positive. However, supplies are running low, and they feel emotionally trapped.

Impact on Tourism

The hotel's summer season, set to start this weekend, has suffered cancellations as mountain hikers' bookings are called off due to the situation.
