Turkish judge keeps journalists in cell

A Turkish judge has determined on Monday that four prominent journalists and staff members of opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet must remain in jail during the hearing of their case.

Editor-in-chief Murat Sabuncu, investigative journalist Ahmet Sik, lawyer Akin Atalay and administrator Emre Iper stand trial for support to the perpetrators of the coup a year and a half ago.

The public prosecutors claim that Cumhuriyet was in fact taken over by the supporters of Fethullah Gülen, who is held responsible for the failed coup. The accused deny any involvement in the movement of the spirit living in the US.
