Timmermans: open border is crucial for peace

Frans Timmermans calls it crucial that the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland remain open to prevent violence in the former conflict area.

'We have a common European moral and political responsibility to do everything in our power to prevent it from happening again', says Timmermans referring to the so-called Troubles of the last century. 'I will never understand how it is possible that we see it so clearly, but some people in Westminster (London) pass it by so indifferently. I simply do not understand that. '
