Rwanda wants to receive stranded migrants from Libya

Rwanda has offered to receive tens of thousands of African migrants who have been stranded in Libya and live there under severe conditions.

'In view of our own history, we can not keep silent while people are being treated badly and auctioned like cattle,' reported the Rwandan Foreign Ministry. According to the Rwandan newspaper The New Times, the country is talking with the African Union (AU) about resettling the migrants.

The AU and Kigali made provisional arrangements for accommodating 30,000 people, but that number may still change. 'We are unable to accommodate all 400,000 migrants, but we are willing to do our part', said Minister Louise Mushikiwabo (Foreign Affairs) against the newspaper.

The fate of African migrants in Libya is under a magnifying glass because of the leaked images of the auction. The images shown by CNN led to a lot of commotion internationally.
