Red Cross opens giro number for Yemen

The Red Cross will intensify its relief operation in Yemen.

There is a huge water shortage that even medical posts have to close. Saudi Arabia closed all border crossings with neighboring Yemen on 6 November: it was therefore impossible for relief goods and aid workers to enter. Meanwhile, the first emergency flights have landed again.

Yemen has been the scene of violence for more than two years and now there is a lack of everything according to the Red Cross. Nearly ten million people urgently need help, especially clean drinking water, medical care and food.

This spring, a major cholera epidemic broke out, in which more than 900,000 people became infected.
