EU support for Sudan and South Sudan

The European Commission is making € 68 million available for humanitarian aid to civilian-affected communities in Sudan and South Sudan.

According to Brussels, the support is desperately needed for the millions of people displaced by the conflict in South Sudan since 2016. Sudan is flooded by refugees from the neighboring country.

According to EU Commissioner Christos Stylianides (humanitarian aid), it is essential that support reaches the population. 'The emergency services must be able to work safely. They are aid workers, not a target. '

In August 2016, a peace agreement between the government of South Sudan and rebels was blown up. Ethiopia tries to mediate in the conflict.
