Venezuelan sister of bridge Genoa not checked for years

The second longest bridge in South America, with the same design as the bridge collapsed in Genoa, has not been inspected for decades.

The General Rafael Urdaneta bridge- designed by architect Riccardo Morandi- has spanned access to Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela since 1962 over a length of almost nine kilometers. The construction of concrete and steel has not been checked for decades, according to a former official in The Times.

It is also no longer possible to check what the weight of freight traffic is on the main road daily.
