Speakers must warn against attacks

In more than ninety places in the Australian city of Melbourne, loudspeakers are installed before the turn of the year to alert the public in case of calamities or a terrorist attack.

The loudspeaker system is part of a package of measures to warn the public about major incidents. Groups of people can then be instructed, for example, where they can flee. SMS alerts and special radio broadcasts are also part of this, according to Australian media.

A terrorist attack last January is also the reason for the installation of the system. A man then deliberately drove pedestrians into a shopping mall with a car, which killed six people.
