Designer ANWB-signs Gerard Unger died

In his hometown of Bussum, the typographer Gerard Unger died on Friday.

Unger followed his graphic education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where he was also a longtime teacher. From 2006 to 2012 he was Professor of Typographic Design at Leiden University.

He designed stamps, coins, house styles for companies and no less than 23 fonts. He drew the letter Swift, which is used by Trouw, and Capitolium News, which is used by de Volkskrant.

Gerard Unger was 76 years old.
