Button-press Hawaii thought of real attack

The employee who sent a missile alarm in Hawaii mistakenly thought a real attack was going on.

According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the error can partly be attributed to miscommunication. Employees of the responsible government department received a telephone message about an attack. It incorrectly contained the statement 'this is not an exercise. '

The training exercise started and ended with the words 'exercise, exercise, exercise', but the employee did not hear that. The authorities had already received a lot of criticism because they only took the false alarm after almost forty minutes. An attempt by the governor to reassure people via Twitter was also delayed by a quarter of an hour. The man had forgotten his password.

FCC head Ajit Pai called the angry reactions to the false missile alarm. He pointed out that panic citizens thought that their last hour had been beaten.
