Balcony collapses by group photo during Christmas party

During a Tupperware Christmas party in a house in Melbourne, two women died and seventeen people were injured after a balcony collapsed under the weight of about 30 people.

That is what local media report. The 30 visitors to Tupperware party at a home in Doncaster East wanted to take a picture when it went horribly wrong around 10:30 PM (local time). The wooden construction of the balcony was not designed for a large group of people and collapsed. A 59-year-old woman died on the spot. A 37-year-old woman died in the hospital from her injuries.

Seventeen others were transferred to the hospital with various injuries. According to the police, they are all out of danger.

A neighbor heard a huge noise and immediately went to see what was going on. 'I was watching television and all of a sudden it looked like a big tree fell over and I went straight into the street to see where the sound came from.' A woman also came out and yelled 'Oh my god, oh my god ''said neighbor Andrew Stone opposite ABC.

Firefighters came directly to the scene to take victims under the rubble of the collapsed balcony, according to a spokeswoman for Fire Brigade in Melbourne.

The police are investigating the incident. 'This is a very tragic accident, especially now that we have a week of Christmas,' says research leader Kerin Moloney.
