Police expels demonstrators against AfD

The police have driven more than a hundred demonstrators in Hanover who wanted to block access roads to the party congress of the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD).

Friday night there was already a demonstration against the right populist AfD and that went quietly, reported local media.

Members of the AfD from all over Germany meet in Hannover on Saturday to choose a new management. This should make the course of the party clearer.

The AfD was founded in 2013 by a group of Eurosceptic economists as a party that wants to get rid of the euro. In the following year, the party went to the right under the leadership of, among others, Frauke Petry, who first stated that the AfD is against immigration and against Islam. Earlier this year Petry stepped up as party leader and later left the party.
