Paris and London want end shell war

France and Great Britain are trying to put an end to a high-level conflict over fishing for scallops.

The stumbling block is that French fishermen are not allowed to remove Scallops from the water between 15 May and 1 October. The British do not have to stick to that fishing ban. Rival fishermen rammed each other on Tuesday and threw stones.

The French minister Stéphane Travert (Agriculture) said on the radio on Friday that he had consultations with the British Secretary of State George Eustice. Representatives from the fisheries sectors from the two countries will sit around the table next week.

The head of the fishing association from Normandy says that the meeting should take place Wednesday in London. There are representatives from the French government. The catch of scallops is not tied to EU rules, so that countries can determine when they can fish.
