No damage after the quake in the Pacific Ocean

A severe earthquake occurred near the New Caledonia archipelago east of Australia.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that coastal areas up to 300 kilometers away from the epicenter had to take into account tidal waves. The warning applied to New Caledonia and Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean, where waves eventually arrived which did not constitute a threat.

The authorities in Australia and New Zealand announced that they had not issued a tsunami warning.
