US no longer behind UN refugee document

The United States no longer supports a declaration of intent from the United Nations about the refugee problem.

Washington wants to decide on its own who it allows and sees nothing in the statement, which was approved under President Barack Obama at the time.

The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, has announced this weekend to UN chief António Guterres that Washington is abandoning the letter of intent. According to Haley, no other country has done as much for migrants as the US and the Americans are proud of. But decisions about immigration policy must be taken by Americans alone. The international plan does not fit with that, according to Haley.
