Suspects killings condemned Ivory Coast

Five ex-soldiers and a former police chief in Ivory Coast sentenced to prison for kidnapping, torture and murder of four foreigners.

The convicted ex-soldiers were loyal to former president Laurent Gbagbo, who refused to clear the field after an election crash in 2010. A civil war broke out that would cost thousands of people.

Also, two Frenchmen, a Malaysian and a Beninese did not survive the conflict. They were removed from Novotel by security forces. The victims, including the French manager of the hotel, were later killed in the presidential palace.

The judge sentenced the former commander of the Republican Guard to eighteen years in prison for his involvement in the murders. Four other soldiers received prison sentences to eighteen years. A former police chief disappears twenty years behind bars.
