Saudi Arabia leaves a thousand Ethiopians free

Saudi Arabia has approved the release of about one thousand Ethiopian prisoners, who are detained in the Gulf State for various reasons.

Among the detainees who let Riyadh go are a hundred women. It is unclear why they were convicted. Hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians live in the Gulf region, most in Saudi Arabia. The authorities in the Sunni kingdom are in the process of expelling more than half a million illegal immigrants from Ethiopia. So far, 160,000 have already been returned to the Horn of Africa.
