Rutte in Brussels: deliver Saudi less weapons

Prime Minister Mark Rutte encouraged other Member States at the EU summit in Brussels to export fewer arms to Saudi Arabia.

'The Netherlands already has a very restrictive policy regarding the export of arms to this type of countries,' Rutte says. He urged his colleagues to introduce a 'similarly restrictive arms export system'. The United Kingdom and France, among others, supply a lot of weapons to the Saudis.

'A terrible case, a terrible file,' said Rutte about the alleged murder of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. He expressed support for the statement by EU foreign chef Mogherini, who asked for an independent, thorough investigation. 'There must be clarity. '
