EU rents houses for refugees Greece

In Greece, 22,000 homes are available for 30,000 refugees.

EU Commissioner Christos Stylianides (Humanitarian Aid): 'This is the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of refugees. This project aims to accommodate them in normal homes. This way they can lead a safer and more normal life. '

Twenty thousand homes are rented on the mainland, the rest on the Greek islands. The project is in collaboration with UNCHR UN Refugee Agency.

The committee approved a total of 209 million euros on new emergency aid projects in Greece on Thursday. There are 57.6 million euros for asylum seekers and refugees to buy basic needs for food and medicine. They receive a fixed amount per month depending on the family composition. There is also money for health care, psychosocial assistance and education.
