Belgian reactor in Doel is allowed again after leak

Reactor 1 of the nuclear power plant in the Flemish Doel may start up again.

Analysis showed that the leak was the result of 'material fatigue', the watchdog reports. 'The Doel 1 reactor can now be re-operated in a safe manner. 'The pipes must be inspected regularly.

Reactor 2, where there was a similar problem, received green light last month to start up. In the surrounding countries there are many concerns about the safety of the nuclear power plants in Doel, near Antwerp, and Tihange, near Liège.
