Traffic minister Italy tackles road managers

After the collapse of the bridge in Genoa, the Italian government will go through the licenses of all road operators.

Toninelli is considering nationalizing private toll roads. He named the Netherlands as an example. 'There are other systems in Europe that we believe function better than ours. In Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium are the motorways of the state and partly free of charge. In Italy, on the other hand, it has been decided to privatize them (...) without sufficient competition. '

The collapsed bridge in Genoa is operated by Autostrade per l'Italia, owned by the Benetton family. Toninelli blames the operators for having collected billions of dollars in tolls, but that has barely returned to the roads.
