Nuclear reactor at Antwerp restarted

The Belgian nuclear reactor Doel 4 near Antwerp, which has been stolen by a fault in the non-nuclear part of the plant since Saturday night, has been restarted.

The reactor was automatically switched off on Saturday after a technical failure. A spokesman for FANC, the Belgian regulator of nuclear power plants, says that 'the incident does not represent a lot' and because of the disturbance there was no danger to the environment and the population.

It happens more often that reactors in Doel or Tihange, the other nuclear power plant in Belgium, are shut down without prior notice. There is a lot of security concern in neighboring countries. Belgian nuclear power plants are at home and abroad controversial because of their age and defects.
