usa - Criticism and reactions continue towards the mass pardon issued by President Donald Trump for those involved in the January 6 Capitol riot.

Allegations of Controversial Pardon

The recent mass pardon issued by President Donald Trump for individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot has sparked intense criticism and reactions across various sectors.

Senator Reactions

Alaska's Republican Senator, Lisa Murkowski, expressed disappointment over the pardon and criticized the act of pardoning those who attacked law enforcement officers during the riot.

Illinois' Democratic Senator, Dick Durbin, labeled the pardon as 'shameful' and emphasized the disgraceful nature of the violence directed towards law enforcement during the riot.

Delaware's Democratic Senator, Chris Coons, denounced the pardon as a concerning action by President Trump and highlighted the importance of accountability for those who attacked police officers.

Judicial Response

A federal judge, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, highlighted that pardons will not alter the facts of the events in the nation's capital and underscored the importance of preserving evidence related to the Capitol incident.

Criticism from Police Unions

The International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police expressed deep disappointment over the pardon for individuals convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers, citing the adverse impact on accountability.

The Fraternal Order of Police, which boasts over 377,000 members, had previously endorsed Trump in multiple presidential elections.

Details of Trump's Pardon

President Donald Trump's mass pardon included approximately 1600 individuals involved in the Capitol riot, where prominent figures such as Enrique Tarrio and Stewart Rhodes were among the first to be released from prison.

Rhodes and Tarrio, sentenced to 18 and 22 years respectively for charges related to organizing the riot, received some of the lengthiest jail terms among the individuals prosecuted for their roles in the Capitol incident.
