dublin - Snow storms have largely flattened the public life of Ireland Friday. In the UK the army was called in to help after the heavy snowfall.

After a period of 'Siberian' weather, the south of Great Britain and Ireland were attacked by snowstorms. Roads became impassable, airplanes remained on the ground and trains did not drive anymore.

At least 24,000 households and businesses in Ireland were without electricity, the stock exchange remained closed, all schools were closed and transport had come to a standstill. All flights at Dublin Airport were canceled.

In the south of England hundreds of passengers were stranded at night in stopped trains. The army was called in to help hundreds of drivers who were trapped in the snow. Roads and schools were also closed in England, and several flights were canceled.
