Part suspension bridge motorway collapsed at Genoa

genoa - A significant part of a motorway bridge at Genoa has collapsed. Italian media report that it is still unknown whether there are victims. The Morandi bridge over the Polcevera River is to the west of the Italian port city.

The road has collapsed over hundreds of meters in both directions. According to Corriere della Sera, cars and people have been buried under the debris.

The bridge for the A10 motorway dates from the sixties and connects the airport to the west of Genoa with the city center. The construction is 90 meters high and about one kilometer long. A part collapsed on Tuesday when the region was ravaged by heavy rains.
