cairo - The Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi won the presidential election in his country by a large majority. According to the electoral commission, he received about 97 percent of the votes, the same percentage with which he won the elections in 2014.

Sisi was considered the winner of the election because all serious challengers had dropped out. Most of the approximately 59 million voters decided to stay at home. The turnout was 41 percent. The only counter-candidate, Moussa Mustafa Moussa, received about 3 percent of the votes.
