Jan Fabre was accused by 20 men and women

World September 13, 2018 08:16

- Jan Fabre humiliated and sexually intimidated dancers in his company for years. 'In and around his rehearsal room is humiliation daily costs', twenty former employees write in an open letter. That is what Het Laatste Nieuws reports, which also published the letter.

The ex-employees, men and women, state in the letter that the Belgian artist, who is also known and active in the Netherlands, verbally humiliates and aggressively and manipulatively treats anyone who does not respond to his advances. Abuse of power would be the order of the day, in the form of verbal abuse, humiliations and derogatory statements. An example: 'You are beautiful, but you have no sense, like a chicken without a head. '

In addition, Fabre would have his own project: a pornographic tinted photo collection for which he asks his dancers to pose for hefty payment. After the shoot he would have sought sexual rapprochement every time.

The artist denies the accusations. 'During an artistic process you sometimes come across sensitive terrain: what can be done for one actor or dancer is not possible for the other. But I do not force anyone to do things that are considered to be cross-border for him or her. '

The Minister of Culture Sven Gatz has investigated the complaint.
