boston - The Massachusetts authorities are starting an investigation into the use of private information from tens of millions of Facebook users. The Cambridge Analytica data company would have used the data to make profiles of American voters, messages The New York Times and The Observer.

The data would have been collected via the thisisyourdigitallife app. Hundreds of thousands of users were paid to take a personality test. They also gave permission for the use of their data for scientific purposes. The app also collected the information from their Facebook friends, the British newspaper reports.

The authorities are also involved in the issue. The Attorney General of Massachusetts announced that he would start an investigation. She called on Facebook and Cambridge Analytica to give immediate openness of business.
