Governor Curacao: elections continue

World March 28, 2017 08:54

willemstad - The parliamentary elections on April 28 in Curacao simply continue. According to a decision Monday (local time) was announced. The governor of the island will be a decision of last week installed interim government to postpone the elections, not signs.

It seems to have come to an end a fierce battle that was fought in the CuraƧao politics for several weeks about whether there should be early elections.

On February 12 was the cabinet Koeiman. Immediately after new elections were called, to the dismay of a new coalition led by former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte. That got them to the European Court of Human Rights. The new government was installed last Friday is the party of Schotte's largest. He himself can not be prime minister because of a conviction for fraud and official corruption.

The decision to postpone the elections led to civil unrest. For Tuesday scheduled a demonstration pro-election. But the question is whether that event still continues after the decision of the governor.
