cairo - Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday set free. It reports the daily newspaper al-Ahram. The decision to release was expected for some time.

The lawyer Mubarak, Farid al-Deeb, has confirmed the release. The newspaper cites a statement by the highest prosecutor in the land.

The now 88-year-old Mubarak was earlier this month acquitted of responsibility for the deaths of protesters during an uprising in 2011. The ex-general and statesman in that year pushed by the military on the side. He came to power in 1981.

Hosni Mubarak was in 2012 for life for his role in the deaths of the demonstrators. However, this process had to be done and that resulted in acquittal in 2014. He now has three years served another sentence for corruption.
