genoa - In Genoa Saturday a commemoration service was held for the first 18 of the total of 42 people who died after the collapse of the bridge last Tuesday. There was applause for the deceased, but also for the employees of the emergency services and for the 560 people who lived in houses near or under the bridge and who had become homeless.
About 10 000 people attended the memorial service that was held at the port of Genoa. 'The whole world is currently looking at Genoa in a big embrace of emotion, affection and expectation. Every human word, however sincere, blurs out of this tragedy. Nothing can give back what has been lost. 'said the archbishop of Genoa, cardinal Angelo Bagnasco during the commemoration.
On Saturday, the emergency services pulled out four bodies under the rubble of the collapsed bridge. Three of them were in a car crushed by a concrete slab of the road surface. There are still 10 injured in the hospital, six of whom are in critical condition.
