Death penalty for 21 people to plan attacks

cairo - In Egypt, 21 people were sentenced to death for planning attacks, forming an Islamic extremist group and making bombs. That says a source within the court. Four others have been sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison. Sixteen of the 21 convicts were convicted in absentia.

A new hunt for Islamic extremists and moderate Islamists has started in Egypt since 2013. Since the dismissal of the elected president Mohamed Mursi and the banning of his party the Muslim Brotherhood, hundreds of death sentences have been pronounced and dozens of convicts have been executed.
