boston - Scientists from Harvard University in Boston claim to have found a second parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence. That reports the Harvard Gazette. The copy ended at an auction in 2015 in South England.

Initially, scientists thought that it was a 19th century copy of the document drawn up in 1776. However, further investigation reveals that there are minor differences with the original document stored in the Washington National Archives. The researchers now think that the document was created in 1780. The big difference with the original is that the signatories are no longer grouped by state.

The Declaration of Independence was largely drafted by Thomas Jefferson and adopted in 1776. The Americans declared themselves independent of the British monarchy.

The scientists have called this copy the Sussex Declaration.
