Bulgarian journalist Marinova murdered

roese - Bulgarian TV journalist Viktoria Marinova (30) was found dead at a remote spot on the Danube near her hometown of Roese. The police said on Sunday in the local media that she was raped and brutally murdered.

The journalist and presenter worked for the TVN channel. She was involved in an investigation into corruption and misuse of money from the European Union. For the time being, the police department has said that it has no indications that Marinova was killed because of her activities.

Members of the European Parliament, including the Dutch Sophie in 't Veld (D66) via Twitter, called attention to this matter. It is already the third murder of a European journalist in a year's time. Daphne Caruana Galizia from Malta became the victim of a bomb attack in October 2017. The Slovakian reporter Jan Kuciak was shot dead in February in the company of his girlfriend.
