SPD leader Schulz wants Merkel tolerated

The leader of the German Social Democrats, Martin Schulz, is nevertheless open to talks with the Christian Democrat Chancellor Angela Merkel about a new government.

Schulz would unfold on Thursday his new course in his conversation with party colleague Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who for a long time was Minister of Foreign Affairs under Merkel.

It is a turnaround for Schulz. After the bitter election defeat of September 24, he repeatedly swore that the SPD goes into the opposition. Recently, he insisted that new elections should be held if the other parties do not come together to form a government coalition.
