- Liverpool reaches a record-breaking agreement to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a potential British transfer record fee of £116m, surpassing Moisés Caicedo's deal with Chelsea.

Liverpool Agrees £116m Deal for Florian Wirtz Transfer

Liverpool has finalized a deal to acquire Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, with the transfer potentially reaching a British record fee of £116 million, as reported by sources.

Record-Breaking Deal

After having two offers turned down by Leverkusen, Liverpool managed to secure the deal with an initial payment of £100m, along with bonuses that could total up to £16m.

If the add-ons are activated, Wirtz's transfer fee will surpass the previous British record set by Moisés Caicedo's move to Chelsea in 2023.

High Expectations

The 22-year-old, ranked second on ESPN's list of attacking midfielders, is anticipated to make a significant impact at Anfield, with comparisons drawn to the transformative signings of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker in 2018.

Liverpool beat strong competition from Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Real Madrid for Wirtz's signature, showcasing the club's determination to secure the promising talent.

Summer Signings

Wirtz will be Liverpool's most expensive signing, surpassing the £85m acquisition of Darwin Núñez in 2022. He joins Jeremie Frimpong as the Reds' second summer recruit, with interest also shown in Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez.
