Skiers surprised by flying volcanic rocks

Several people were injured, probably after a volcano erupted at a ski resort in Japan.

According to Japanese media, at least twelve people were injured, mostly because they were hit by volcanic rock. According to the disaster agency, two people are in bad shape. Among the persons saved after an avalanche were six soldiers who were engaged in an exercise in the area.

'Based on different measurements, we can say that there has been a volcanic eruption, but we still have to get a confirmation from the spot', says the Japanese Meteorological Agency The Kusatsu-Shirane is a 2160 meter high volcano in Gunma province north of Tokyo.
