madrid, spain - Atlético Madrid is on the verge of securing Atalanta's Matteo Ruggeri, opting out of pursuing Liverpool's Andy Robertson. Negotiations are advancing for the 22-year-old full-back.

Atlético Madrid Nearing Deal for Matteo Ruggeri

Atlético Madrid is nearing the signing of Atalanta full-back Matteo Ruggeri, shifting their focus from Liverpool's Andy Robertson. Talks between Atlético and Atalanta have progressed smoothly, with a potential deal expected to be finalized soon.

Ruggeri's Profile

Matteo Ruggeri, 22, has an impressive track record with 99 Serie A appearances for Atalanta, contributing nine assists from the left-back position. He has also represented Italy's under-21 team on 16 occasions, most recently during their Euro campaign in Slovakia.

Decision-Making Process

Atlético Madrid initially considered Robertson, who had reportedly agreed to a move to Spain, and Aston Villa's Lucas Digne. However, after careful evaluation, the club has opted to proceed with securing Ruggeri.

Additional Transfer Activity

Alongside the Ruggeri deal, Atlético has finalized an agreement for Real Betis' Johnny Cardoso. The club is also in discussions with Villareal regarding midfielder Álex Baena, as manager Diego Simeone aims to bolster the squad for a strong LaLiga title challenge in the upcoming season.
