Prime Minister Iraq: land completely liberated from IS

Iraqi forces have displaced terrorism Islamic State out of the country.

Al-Abadi said two weeks ago that IS had been defeated militarily, but that he only wished to announce the victory if the extremists had also been destroyed in the desert. A Shiite militia also took part in the subsequent operation. The aim of the offensive was to prevent the remaining IS groups from 'melting away in the desert' and from there make new attacks, said an army spokesperson.

IS was driven back further and further, after the city of Mosul had fallen in July. That was the main stronghold of IS in Iraq. IS also no longer has a firm footing in neighboring Syria, Russia recently announced.
