Lifetime for live broadcast shooting

A man who was filming when he shot a woman was sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States.

Jury members were able to view video footage from the run-up to the shooting during the trial. Gelia had broadcast those images herself via Facebook Live. The jury heard shots and screams after the man had invaded the house in Jackson, Michigan. A bullet flew through a door and hit a 26-year-old woman who died from her injuries.

The judge decided that Gelia is not eligible for early release. 'You may not know that someone was behind the door, but you knew that there were people in the house when you started shooting,' the magistrate ruled. The shooter said he never intended to make victims. 'I deserve this punishment,' he said.

The lawyer of Gelia says that a woman is partly responsible for the shooting. She would have fed the man drunk and incited him. Then she brought him to the house.
