Japanese (116) now the oldest woman in the world

A 116 year old Japanese is since Saturday officially the oldest woman in the world according to Guinness World Records.

Tanaka was born in 1903 as the seventh of eight children. The previous eldest woman was also a Japanese, Chiyo Miyako. She died in July at the age of 117. Françoise Jeanne Louise Calment, who died in 1997, is known as the oldest woman ever. She became according to Guinness World Records 122.

The organization is still looking for who is currently the oldest man in the world. In January, the Japanese died Masazo Nonaka, who at that time was the oldest at 113 years.
