Flames sea destroyed avocado capital of the world

The self-appointed avocado capital of the world, the Californian town of Fallbrook, has been hit hard by the devastating forest fires.

'A large proportion of the fruits that should have been harvested next year have been burned,' says one of the farmers in the region that accounts for 90% of American avocado production.

The expectation is not that the devastation is felt at the cash register in European supermarkets. Farmers in Mexico and South America are responsible for the vast majority of world production.

In the still fierce raging fires north of the Los Angeles metropolis, one person has lost his life. Around 500 buildings have been destroyed. Thousands of people are fleeing the fire.
