Yet, the German intelligence service resigns

World November 5, 2018 05:16

berlin - The chief of the German intelligence service BfV, Hans-Georg Maassen, is fired anyway. He would become a special adviser at the Ministry of the Interior with retention of salary. That transfer is reportedly unavailable because Maassen in the farewell speech he wrote strongly criticized the coalition. The text of his speech had already been distributed to the BfV.

Initially, Maassen would resign his position to become better paid secretary of state at the department. Government partner SPD objected strongly last month. The crisis was defeated by inventing a different function for Maassen, but now his resignation is being prepared.
