Writer Aharon Appelfeld (85) died

jerusalem - The Israeli writer and survivor of the Holocaust Aharon Appelfeld died at the age of 85. That has confirmed his family in Jerusalem. Appelfeld was one of Israel's most productive and well-known authors. He has 47 books to his name. His work was published in 35 languages, including Dutch.

Appelfeld was born in Romania in 1932, grew up in what is now called Ukraine, and ended up in the then Palestine at the age of thirteen.

Appelfeld became world famous with its novels Badenheim 1939, Flowers of darkness and The age of miracles.
