amsterdam - A photo of a refugee baby has been named the best picture of the year. Someone is giving the baby in the middle of the night through a hole in the barbed wire to a man, on the border between Serbia and Hungary. The blurry photo was taken by Australian photographer Warren Richardson. He is the winner of the World Press Photo 2015, the jury announced on Thursday in Amsterdam.

In August 2015 many refugees tried to stabbing the border between Serbia and Hungary. The man and the baby were part of a wave of refugees from the Serbian village of Horgos and the Hungarian Röszke. They tried to reach Hungary before the country would complete a fence to stop the refugees.

The picture stands out,, by the power of its simplicity and symbolism of the barbed wire, '' said jury chairman Francis Kohn.,, The picture has everything to give a strong visual representation of the situation of the refugees. It is a very classic picture that is both timeless. ''

Richardson, a freelance photographer, camped for five days with the refugees at the border. He followed a group of about two hundred people at night trying to stabbing the border.

,, I was five hours with them on the road and we played all night a cat and mouse game with the police ', 'says Richardson.,, I was exhausted by the time I took this picture. It was around three o'clock in the morning and I could not use flash because the police tried to find these people. I had to make do with the glow of the moon. ''
