Woman (43) brain dead after falling on ice skating rink

brugge - A 43-year-old woman was declared brain-dead on New Year's Day after a fall on the skating rink in the center of Bruges. She went on the ice just after midnight to dance.

The Russian woman lost balance and fell on her head. She lost consciousness for a moment, but refused to go to the hospital with the emergency services running.

Around eight o'clock in the morning- about seven hours after the crash- the emergency services were called up again. It did not go well with the woman, she did not move anymore and was transferred to the hospital in a critical condition. There the woman was later declared brain dead.

The woman was on holiday with a friend in Bruges to celebrate the old and the new. Just after the turn of the year, the women decided to go to the skating rink, just like some other party-goers. The ice rink was closed at that time.
