WhatsApp service for the homeless in Amsterdam

amsterdam - Homeless in Amsterdam can see since Monday on their mobile phone when the winter shelter opens or when they can free haircut.


         Aid agencies have begun a trial with an information service via SMS and WhatsApp to help homeless people in their daily lives better. Most homeless people already have a simple (obsolete) mobile phone, because this is the only way for them to communicate with family and friends.
The project entitled 'Street Troubadour 'is an initiative of the Salvation Army, the Protestant Parish and telecommunications company Vodafone, which is responsible for the coordination and technique to send the messages. They want to make a positive contribution to assistance to the vulnerable homeless. They focus primarily on those less than two years living on the streets, because they still go and see their little bodies.
It will last six months and do thirty homeless people participate. Professional counselors will the text messages and app-writing messages and personal contact with the participants. The homeless may also contact, ask questions and share tips. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan of Amsterdam Monday afternoon sent the first message.
Upon passing the test in Amsterdam is the Salvation Army also introduce services in Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. In the four major cities remains the majority (40 percent) of the Dutch wanderers. The ultimate goal is to help homeless people in the Netherlands to communicate with peers and aid organizations.
