mountain view - Being sick is annoying, but how are we actually? That's what Google's sister company Verily wants to investigate. Together with the US universities Duke and Stanford, the company is launching a four-year trial of 10,000 participants. That research looks at what happens when we go from healthy to sick. Additional risk factors for diseases should also be identified.
The survey, for which participants in the US states of California and North Carolina will be selected, are part of Project Baseline. In that project Verily wants to capture a kind of reference point for what's healthy. Participants are followed by visits to clinics, decrease of biological samples such as blood and saliva, a smartwatch to measure heart rate and activity, but also participation in research and surveys.
Verily is still working on various other health projects. For example, the company develops a smart contact lens with built-in glucose meter for diabetic patients.
